A Patek Philippe Reference 2499 watch has sold at auction for the record price of $US621,000.
The Patek Philippe Reference 2499 watch is regarded as one of the most important technology instruments for Patek. It was one of the most complex watches of the mid-1950s and a global breakthrough of modern super-functional chronometer watches. It was one of the first wrist watches with many complications, including a perpetual calendar, chronograph, chronometer and all the moonphase functions.
In this case, the watch sold to a buyer in Beverly Hills, California, but many rare Patek Philippe watches are bought by the company itself for their Museum in Geneva – particularly watches with special casings. Most Patek Philippe have yellow gold and red gold cases; the rarer white gold and steel watches are often bought for the Museum.
